ni hao.
Im here. in shanghai, china. im studying abroad with west virgina's ceramics in china program. ill be here for 5 1/2 weeks. there are 9 people in my group bob & boomer (the faculty) denise (a potter/instructor from PA) and nick, jake, andres, rebecca, & carmen students from various places in the us. we arrived late wednesday night, had some noodles for dinner... YUMM

shanghai reminds me alot of NYC. so the culture shock really hasnt hit just yet. jet lag on the other hand... yikes! we've done the touristy things like Yu Gardens, shanghai museum, dusk @ the bund..checked out the museum of contemporary art... and food.. yessss. today for lunch was the best meal yet. it wasnt a resturant... more of.. i guess you could say... back alley local stop. to start... dumplings (the best ive had this trip... and ive had them at alomst every meal) fresh tomatos with egg.. then my fav; amazingly fresh green pepper and beef (spicy)  i could have just eaten that and been one happy american... and fried noodles with egg. all topped off with suntory (beer). after lunch we searched for an antique market only to be taken into back alleys in tiny homes where locals were trying to sell us... well bob, imitation ming & song dynasty pottery. that was an experience.

tonight is our last night in shanghai and plans are dinner then drinks. with the jet lag.. anytime ive had a few beers at night im falling asleep at the table.. not tonight.. goin out with a bang. tomorrow morning we hop onto a 12 hr train to jingdezhen.. i cannot wait to get to the studio!!! we will be there for 3 weeks then off to xian and bejing!!!

i will post again in a few days but for now here are a few pictures =)
